his introductory class presents the key concepts and overall structure of the course and introduces psychological measurement as a foundation of psychological assessment. Through a collaborative in-class activity, we will explore what it means to measure, how measurement procedures influence the information we obtain, and why measuring psychological attributes presents particular challenges. We will introduce the concept of a psychological construct and consider how psychologists use observable indicators to make inferences about characteristics that cannot be directly observed. The class will also introduce the Assessment Design Studio group project, the semester-long group project that will accompany our work throughout the course.
