Here is the course outline:

1. Course Introduction

Sep 1 3pm .. 5:30pm, Room 2.03

Practical info about the course and its requirements. Attendance policy. Career talks with industry insiders. Assignments. Internship requirements. Paperwork related to internship. You will meet AAU Career Development Specialist and will learn how you can benefit from individual career counseling.

2. Personal Branding and Job Search Tools

Sep 8 3pm .. 5:45pm, Room 2.03

Establishing and maintaining your personal brand. Finding your path, IKIGAI. Personal SWOT analysis. Job search strategies and tools. Job search resources in the Czech Republic.

3. CV / Resume writing

Sep 15 3pm .. 5:45pm, Room 2.03

CV dos and don'ts, section to include and exclude, tips on perfecting your CV. Next week = Writing a cover letter: why bother about it and how to stand out from the crowd.

4. Cover Letters + The Power of Networking for Your Career

Sep 22 3pm .. 5:30pm, Room 2.03

Cover Letters Networking: who, where and how? Confidence pillars. Conversation starters. Body language. Self-presentation and elevator pitch. / LinkedIn - a powerful networking and job search tool.

5. The Importance of a Job Interview

Sep 29 3pm .. 5:45pm, Room 2.03

Purpose of a job interview and your role there. Interview types. What to do before, during and after an interview. Dealing with nervousness and getting rejected.

Conflict resolution. Challenging situations you can face at work: how to deal with them. Salary negotiations: who initiates, when is the best time and how to approach this uneasy issue.

7. No lecture - Only meetings for Mock interviews day.

Oct 13 3pm .. 5:45pm, Room 2.03

No class meeting. Time slot reserved for mock interviews. - Arrange your mock interview individually for this time slot. - Individual consultations on internship search and feedback on assignments. Tip: if you chose to write an Individual Career Plan, use this time to work on it.

8. Career talk 1. TBA

Guest speaker: Morgan Childs, American freelance journalist based in Prague and podcast producer. Her work appeared in print, online, and radio, including The Atlantic, GQ, Politico EU, National Public Radio, BBC, Travel + Leisure, WSJ.com, Lucky Peach, Eater, and Radio Prague. Most recently Morgan has been working on the BBC Radio 4 / BBC Sounds series The News Gurus and the Audible Original 93 Women. Optional. You are required to attend 3/5 career talks.

Guest speaker: Natalie Hadwigerova, Project Coordinator at People in Need. Previously worked for CEA Study Abroad and as an event planner at Trapass Cafe. Graduated from AAU with BA in Humanities, Society & Culture in 2016; MA in Humanities in 2023. Optional. You are required to attend 3/5 career talks.

11. Career talk 3. Working in the Creative Industry or TBA

Guest speaker: Jan Tompkins Collections Database Specialist & Lecturer at Kunsthalle Prague; founded the production company Daisy with Rider, with Mika Johnson, specializing in multimedia installations for cultural institutions. In addition, works in communications and production for Prague Film School, and member of Theta Noir, a techno-optimist artist collective. And more... Graduated from AAU with a BA in Humanities, Society & Culture in 2019; MA in Humanities in 2023 Optional. You are required to attend 3/5 career talks.

12. Career in Visual Arts: The Art Industry, Cultural Institutions, Freelancing...or TBA

Guest speaker: Sasa Vitov, A-i-R Production Manager at Meetfactory, Co-founder and Creative Director of hereandthere. Graduated from AAU with BA in Visual Art Studies in 2021. Required class meeting. Rescheduled from February 6.

13. Career talk 5. Bridging the Gap between University Life & the Post-University Phase or TBA

Guest speaker: Lenka Kosmatova, YouTuber, AI Enthusiast, content creator, educator and keynote speaker. Optional. You are required to attend 3/5 career talks.

14. Experience Take-Aways

Dec 8 3pm .. 4:30pm, Room 2.03

Discussion over the experience and challenges faced during the internship application process and the internship itself. Incomplete form. Suggestions on course improvements.

15. No Session on this date: Finals Week

Dec 15 3pm .. 5pm, Room 2.06

There is a presentation of Residency Options for Graduates in the Czech Republic posted for your interest only. EU nationals and their family members vs 3rd country nationals - who needs a work permit? Working after student visa and "other" visa. Self-employment, freelancing, own business.
