Introduction to the course, including moot court basics, as well as introduction of the central Case to be discussed. Preparation of the Oxford debate related to Moot Court.

2. How does International Law work? #1

a) Introduction to Public International Law (IL), sources of IL, actors of IL, jurisdiction b) Discussion on the CASE c) Division into groups for Oxford Debate, assignment of Cases

3. How does International Law work? #2

a) International agreements and international conflict resolution. Arbitration. b) Oxford Debate 1st Group - Arctic

4. UN Chart, Vienna Convention on Law of Treaties, NPT

a) Brief description of the abovementioned problematics. b) Oxford Debate 2nd Group – Nuclear Weapons

5. UNCLOS, ICJ

7. Moot Court #1 Basic information on Moot Court

a) Introduction to the Art of Mooting (core ides and roles). b) Division in groups, final discussion of the aims of Moot and the rules to be followed during class debate.

8. Moot Court #2 Writing your first appeal to the Court

How to write advocate language, the difference between standard and advocate language, formalities and citations of legal documents. Where to look for resources? During this session, we will go in-depth into writing your first appeal a) During this session you will learn how to write your first appeal b) Where to find sources? How to work with them?

9. Moot Court #3 Oral Appeal, Etiquettes in front of the Court

a) Basics of Oral Appeal. How to prepare an Oral Appeal, what to do and not to do. b) Cross-check correction of opponents Memoranda

10. Moot Court #4 Etiquettes in front of Court, presentational skills

a) Etiquettes in front of the Court b) Practical presentational skills

11. Moot Court #5 Group preparation of Written Appel, “Skeleton & Bundle”

Apr 27 3pm .. 5:45pm, 3.12

a) Generate propositions related to the CASE to be debated with peers b) Skeleton and Bundle c) How will our Moot look like? d) Combining previously prepared written appeals, each group will start to finalise their final Written Appeal

12. Moot Court #6 Oral Appeal and all that needs to be done

May 4 3pm .. 5:45pm, 3.12

Oral Appeal in the groups, try-out Moot Courts for the two groups. Discussions on final topics related to the Moot Court, that should be addressed before May 11th. Logistics during the Moot Court Session.

Please arrive dressed appropriately for a Court Sitting, be on time (late arrivals will be penalised). This session is mandatory for all students.
